Small gathering in somewhere in Europe with another GS fan!
I have been on business trip so often these days. This small gtg happened in mid September but couldn't process until now.
Brothers - on the right is the GS first in SS case, and on the left is the re-issued with blued second hand and whole-new modern movement. Quite a family resemblance, eh? 
His beautiful sun burst dial Spring Drive GS. Very, very nice!
Also his treasure - gold "Special" Hi-Beat modern GS. Wonderful! I have never seen one in person.
And all the characters who gathered at the venue (from two owners, he and I)
I was so happy that the GS fans are getting truly global and I am especially glad that this happened in Europe - never imagined it before.

. . . for business trips! My first vintage Grand Seiko (and second altogether) was delivered in person yesterday . . .
. . . by our Seiko sensei on a visit to our shores. Mid-'70s GS 56, which I discovered on this forum last year. Apparently very few made, and likely available only in Japan, as Grand Seikos were rarely exported during their initial run decades ago. This example was sourced in Japan, and restored by none other than Ohira-san.
. . . that's a wonder to behold. Color and character change with just a slight change in orientation.

The design is very much in accord with my tastes, and there were many factors that led to its acquisition. Foremost, though, is the textured blended-tone dial . . .

What can I say, Mike . . .
. . . other than I bonded with my latest addition immediately. I don't want to take it off my wrist - at least, not for a week or so.
The funny thing is, I didn't even know of its existence until last year, when Ken posted a variant (blue dial, date and day) on display at an exhibit in Tokyo. That one image was all it took to get the ball rolling. And I'm glad Ken found this version, with two-tone textured dial, Romans, and date sans day . . . it's more subtle and discreet this way.
