Looking for something different to wear today. My decision wasn't automatic. This old Seiko H558-5009 "Arnie" has served me well since purchased new in 1985. I wore her through years of military training and even the U.S. Army's Special Forces Qualification Course. This watch has survived countless parachute jumps and trips to Iraq and Afghanistan, and still she keeps ticking away. (Or whatever sound a quartz makes)
She's a little scruffy, but the nicks, dings and scratches are honest and well earned. Every year or two, I take her to have her battery replaced and pressure tested. I'll wear her for a day or two then tuck her away 'til the next time.
"Arnie" was a daily driver for more than a decade before her duties were assumed by Submariner and the rest of the collection that followed. With a couple of dozen pieces in the collection now, this trusty Seiko still holds a place of honor. I have even added another identical Arnie to my stash...just because.
