Early on -- being butterfingers and all -- I managed to scratch a couple of lugs while changing straps on an otherwise pristine watch.

After having a service center do the same on another piece, I quickly became averse to strap/bracelet changing. So I'm wondering KMII -- since you swap straps often -- have you gained sufficient practiced dexterity to avoid scratching altogether or have you learned not to mind scratches on the lugs' inner surfaces? There's a watch whose strap I want to change and am thinking of chancing it again after a very long hiatus.
I use quick change springbars, which minimize the risk of scratches. There are also tools that make scratches less likely. Some of the members here use relatively extensive measures to protect the watches from being scratched while changing straps. Usually includes applying protective foil.

After a service center did the same to a separate piece, I become averse to bracelet/strap changing altogether. Since you change straps and bracelets quite often, KMII, I'm curious -- have you acquired a practiced dexterity that enables you to deftly avoid scratches, or have you a high tolerance for inner-lug scratches in the first place (they aren't visible for the most part, after all) ? There's a watch whose strap I want to change and am debating whether my all-thumbs should be allocated another risky task...

And AD staff are not particularly skilled in this respect and can well scratch a piece. Some are better than others, though and a proper watch maker will make it look like a breeze (seen one of the independents do it on a bad day with a hangover and still be laser precise) π
That's an interesting watch. No lugs at 11 and 1? I have a couple of Omegas with that type of date corrector and if It's not close to the day's date I just don't bother with it.
Another consideration for me is that on both my Aqua Terra and my De Ville parts related to that mechanism eventually failed forcing an otherwise not needed full service.

In both watches this happened well past the expected service interval so it's not something that should be a deal breaker for purchasing but put an end to me setting the date if the correct date is well into the future.
