New Arrival; Grand Seiko Historical Collection, Self Dater
Greetings everyone. Some of you may recall my post of my SBGX093 (Magnetic Resistant), which was a great watch. Although, the opportunity came recently for me to trade that beauty for something else that I have had my eye on... Enter the silver dialed version of the limited edition Grand Seiko Self Dater (SBGV009), from their Historical Collection.
If you have seen this piece before, you will notice that most owners (those with better taste than me!) choose to wear it on the included crocodile strap, although, Seiko is nice enough to also include a very nice metal bracelet. Thus far, this has been my preference. My goodness; I can't take a picture that does this watch justice. In real life, it is just lovely!

As a side note, I decided to try the Self Dater on the included strap; very nice, dressy look, but I think I still prefer the bracelet:

... although I wish the movement were mechanical, the design of this is sooooo good. Doesn't look "old" design at all.

Ken; thank you for the kind words. Yes, the design is classic and IMO, timeless - so much so, that yes, it would be very interesting if it included a mechanical movement. Although, I applaud GS's choice of using the 9f movement. The goal in 1964 was to create the "best practical watch in the world"; the worry-free and accurate 9f quartz movement therefore seems to fit as a fitting tribute. It is certainly part of the charm and appeal to me, in this timepiece.

Rats, I knew that but my brain and fingers didn't connect
Have you ever found yourself confusing an automatic and manual watch?
I borrowed a manual GS from a friend and after a two days it stopped running even though I wore it the whole time.
Imagine my embarrassment when he asked "did you wind it?"
But then later I got a nifty Swiss watch that WAS an automatic and after a solid week of wearing it died 3-4 hours later.
The ensuing investigation resulting in a mini-recall where they fixed a batch that had a part which had been improperly machined.
I guess I'm not succeeding in convincing you or me that I could easily mistake a quartz for an automatic ...

Ha ha; we have all been there. Imagine my confusion, years ago, when my dad gave me his old Elgin 105! A watch that's seconds hand moved like a mechanical, but it was powered by a battery.

After years of looking for the right 43999 - flawless dial, unfinished case, clean lion - I just got mine, and it's amazing.
I'd expect the historical collection homage to be no less spectacular.
