Restoration
Hello danelgrably. Congrats on the purchase. Very envious piece. It would be nice to see this timepiece restored to it"/ former glory. It's a very rare piece and I know for a fact that once restored properly (it would cost you an arm and a leg) it would be worth every penny and you'll enjoy having it. Please do share some photos once the overhaul is completed.

Thanks for your pictures but this one is a fake. The movement of the Original Cartier Memovox is signed Europeen watch and clock and not Jaeger Lecoultre

Yes, in the early 1950s Cartier branded several different JLC models with their name.
Among them the Memovox.
Yours looks like the JLC reference 3151 with the Cal 489 inside.

I am a bit skeptical with your story
It seems odd to me that the watch could have been your granfathers' since you bought it on eBay 10 days ago....
That being said, a very, very rare memovox. I bet the buyer (whoever he is) knew what he was doing given the price paid for what was otherwise a pretty junk looking memo in its current state.
Will be curious to find out how it comes out once restored.
