Cartier

Hello All!!

This is my first post on the Watch Pro Site forum and I am very excited to be part of the community here. I've been lurking around for a while and have been reading lots of wonderful reviews that are posted here, especially those on Calibre de Cartier. So here's what happend..... I went to Paris and fell in love for the second time... with the Calibre de Cartier ofcouse.

This fantastic Cartier creation is one of a kind and it is more than that to me because I bought it from the flagship boutique at 13 Rue de la Paix. The service was impeccable despite no discount were given, however it was worth every EUROs. I even got a special edition box.

I am going to write a few PROs and CONs of the watch from my own point of view since extensive expert reviews have already been written and I am still a lowly WIS (lol).

PROs:

- the watch is extremely beautiful.
- got plenty of compliments!
- the dial is amazingly charismatic.
- it's very comfortable to wear.
- 48 hour power reserve is great!
- the price is pretty good considering you are getting a Cartier and its first in-house automatic movement

CONS:

- i can't stop staring at it!
- can't swim in it.
- strap clasp release system could be better

That's it from me!! Now it's time to save up for another watch!!

Congratulations to you as well!!!! I wish they've given me a copy of that TimeWerke magazine May I ask where you bought your watch? If you bought it at the Paris boutique on Rue de la Paix then they should have given you the special edition box.

Well, there is no Cartier Flagshipstore in this small island.

Oh Yes, I check my credit line before I enter.

these are the only 2 Calibre de Cartier here,in northern Malaysia.So I tried both .

I also like the black dial,May be it's because of the movie the show on the website, I chose the silver dial.

Actually the AD  near the AP boutique is a Rolex AD.

There's another Cortina in the new wing of Gurney Plaza ,It was built in 2009.

Are you living in SE Asia  ?

I am a SE Asia resident too! Bangkok to be exact. I went to the Cartier boutique at the Emporium Mall in Bangkok today and their retail price for the Calibre in SS is THB223,000 (around US$6,800). That's over 22% more than the Paris price I paid There is also a Cortina Watch branch in Bangkok however they do not stock the Calibre collection yet.

make it extremely compelling to make purchases there. I know first hand.

The Official retail price for the steel 'Calibre de Cartier' watch is 4940.- euro
including VAT.

I must admit I did an unfair comparison! The list price I paid at the Paris boutique was €4,960 but I got around €600 back in VAT refund so that translates to roughly a 22% saving compared to the Thai price (VAT inclusive).

to begin with and I was confused with the including- and without tax comparison.
Since 22% difference is hard to believe.
Most companies try to have the same prices all over the world and especially Cartier.
But there are huge VAT differences over the world, especially in Europe.
It's more fair to compare an incl. tax price with another incl. tax price, then the difference
is not that bad.
Hope you had a great time in the 'capital' of Europe, the Rue de la Paix Store is a great experience.

The fair comparison would be as follow:

List Price

Bangkok - THB223,000 (€5,575 @ THB40 per one Euro)*
Paris - €4,960**

* 7% VAT included
** 19.6% VAT included

Difference=€615 or THB24,600 (12% more expensive in Bangkok).

If you plan to do a lot of shopping on French brands and live in SE Asia then it will be worthwhile to make a trip to Paris! Otherwise you can save on your time/airfare + travel hassle and buy the watch in the comfort of your home town for only 10% more than Paris. But Paris really is a great city

If you got TimeWerke you must have purchased it somewhere in SE Asia. That is an excellent publication and a good introduction to Cartier and its history.

The 'special edition' box is only available if you purchase from Rue de la Paix boutique in Paris. Elsewhere you get the regular box which is almost identical save for the Rue de la Paix logo.

i have to admit i never was a fan of ROMAN numerals , but this one brakes the rules for me .... such an attractive watch. you think one can practive the straps color changing to this watch?

I am waiting for Cartier to release a rubber strap so I can use this watch in a more sporty environment. The Calibre is currently my daily wearer and is holding up extremely well.

The size is perfect on my relatively large wrist! I wouldn't go for anything larger than 42mm though

You made a great choice, the silver Calibre de Cartier is the best looking of the bunch in my opinion. And where better to buy it than Rue de la Paix? As you already noted, the store is a wonderful place.

I suppose you got the Goyard wallet from Paris as well?

Thank you SJX! And yes the Goyard wallet was purchased in Paris on the same day I bought the Calibre watch (obviously at their flagship boutique on Saint Honores, a few minutes walk from Cartier). I did not actually want the wallet as I cannot justify the price tag, it was nearly 10% the price of my watch but my girlfriend forced me into buying it. Blah, lol.

Congratulations, beautiful watch!  I just joined the site last week having purchased my first Cartier.  I read a lot of posts and articles on the site before jumping in. Although I know this isn't  true, I felt like l needed a watch to show some pics before I could really get involved.  It is nice that you got to enjoy Paris as well as get a great watch. Enjoy!

The watch really is something and I recommend you check it out in person. I'm sure you'll fall for it like I did.

Nice purchase. Bought my Calibre in black from the Cartier boutique in the Left Bank a month ago and I thoroughly enjoy wearing it. Even the three date window is a nice feature, for it gives the dial a nice instrument feeling. Service was superb as well. Great experience overall.

To be honest I've grown to like the unconventional date window, without it the watch would have too much blank space. Wear the watch in good health. I'm sure you're very proud of it as much as I do.
