A nice story with lots of pics, moving us through from the general (with some architectural background) gradually to the specific (the new watches!) via some fascinating diversions - historic Journe pieces, old bits of machinery, a few horo celebs relaxing around a table, just chewing the fat, as you do...

Along the way, plenty of well-interpreted technical data and exploded movements...and to finish, a tantalising glimpse of droolworthy goodies to come!

Bravo!

He was at Basel and popped over to Geneva to visit some friends. He is currently working on some commissioned pieces and on the Series 2 watch.

it was a pleasure reading you and discovering more info about the new Chronom?tre Souverain. I was not very attracted at the first designs a few weeks ago, but the real one is just superb.

Definitely one of the top five 2005 novelties IMHO!!

It makes me feel worse for having been in Geneva last week and not able to visit.

Is the catalogue you mention the new FP Journe general catalogue? Is it available?

It is already available in several languages although not all dealers might have it in stock yet. Be sure to check with your local dealer for one. It's definitely worth getting. It has an overview of F.P. Journe, like the first volume (Tome I), and all the information about the gold movements and other novelties. My favourite page is the one with the chronology of F.P. Journe timepieces - when they were launched and what calibres they have. Below are some photos of the new catalogue (Tome II). It is only a brief look because the whole thing is 84 pages long!

I really like the how thin it is. I really can't wait too see it in the flesh.

What a very well written report.

The CS also ranks as one of my top 5 novelties this year. It's difficult to say adequately, but I admire Mr Journe for his purpose and philisophy which are delivered with innovation and reassuring consistency.

Alas, I fear resistance is futile...

In the press conference Fran?ois-Paul said it took him almost 30 years to finally make a simple watch, and that he could not have made it without all his previous experience. I suppose it's a similar thought to M. Dufour and the philosophy behind his Simplicity.

What is your impression of the new Chronometre Souverain versus the Octa Divine? I guess the Divine is 38mm, and has the moonphase. It's just so hard to tell what something might look like through pictures (even if they are great pictures )

The C.S. looks great in RG. The dial really stands out.

Maybe I'll get to see some this summer.

The CS is manual wind and cheaper. The Divine is automatic, and has moon phase and date. If you want the very essence of chronometry then the CS is the one to get. If you want something a little more complicated then the Divine is it. What I really liked about the Chronom?tre Souverain is the fine finish of the dial. It gives it a very elegant and refined look.

watch I've seen since the DuFour Simplicity. Amazing piece of design work and craft. I want it so bad I can taste it!

What is the expected price for the new Grande et Petite Sonnerie?

Do you prefer the tourbilloun in RG with RG dial, RG with WG dial, Pt with WG dial or Pt with RG dial?
