You are correct on all counts...

This watch was introduced in 1980 as a 3700 and evolved from there. I presume the 3702 is from the mid-80's and yes, it is Titanium. More info here:

Very cool collection indeed. I agree, they were disruptive in terms of material and design.

I think however that they were NOT the first fully titanium watches. If memory serves me well it was 1983 when the Oceans came to light whereas it was already in 1980 that IWC introduced the Porsche Design Titan Chrono ref. 3700. Below, back row: 3529 / 3

One of the toughest things in vintage watch collecting: finding prototypes.

Ok, perhaps this one falls more into the category "Young-timer" than real vintage but still: This is an early (1981) IWC Porsche Design Titanium Chronograph on which IWC tested the so called geometry-2 (Geo2) bracelet. The Geo2 bracelet was finally introd

A three years old picture. A sort of Genta/Hysek topic. Would now be able to add two more AP RO 5402 and one more IWC 1832. Classy stuff, no?

You all have a great week ahead of you! Cheers, HSTE (from left to right: AP RO A-12xx "Karl" (Genta), AP RO A-8xx (Genta), Vacheron Constantin 222 "Jumbo" (Hysek), IWC Ingenieur 1832 (Genta), Paket Nautilus 3700(Genta), IWC Yacht Club II "Automatic" (Gen

The toughest thing to find: Prototypes. I know some of you guys out there own prototypes. Show them!

The only one I was able to get into my collection is an all Titanium IWC Porsche Design Chrono 3700 which was tested on the next generation bracelet that would change the reference into 3702 later on. Cheers, HSTE

Yes, "IWC". No, not "PVD". No, not "Military/Bund" - IWC TiCon coated Ocean 2000

So, let me reveal the mystery on yesterday's "teaser": this is going to be a geek entry about the late 1970ies, about a company concentrating back then on technical innovation, about a collaboration with Porsche Design. When IWC started its collaboration

Collecting watches: main topics and sub-topics (part 2)

Another topic that - at one time of building my collection - built "itself" was to have the first four generations of IWC Ingenieur watches, all 1) in steel, 2) with steel bracelet and 3) black dial. They cover a time span from 1955 until 1992. The Ingeni

Great to see the good, old 370x on this site. Answers to the "x".....

The first model was the 3700. See enclosed pictures. My 3700 was one of the first 500 produced (they individually numbered those first 500 on the back). Main distinctive features of the original 3700: - watch the dial inscriptions: what is written above t

"Curated" watch collection

Since I will probably not be able to get down to "just one watch" in my collection (see my previous post here: www.watchprosite.com ), I was thinking of what watches would be in a realistic/attainable "curated" collection of around 10 or so watches (vinta
