Another vintage Rolex: Rolex Explorer 6610 " Red ".

From 1956. Same long hour hand than the one of the 6150 I posted some days ago, with an extra: The Red " Depth " Line. These early Explorers are such a charm! Credit: Jacek. Best, Nicolas

A sublime photo of a not less sublime early Rolex Explorer Ref 6150.

From 1953. Please pay attention to the long hour hand and the lollipop second hand. And to this beautiful dial, full of charm and character. Credit: Lunar Oyster. Best, Nicolas

People say that there aren't too many Explorer references

What they forget is that there are damn near infinite variations in all those references! I now have the 214270 "Mark II", 114270, and a "frog-foot" matte dial 1016. That only leaves...let's see... 6098 6298 non-3-6-9 white dial 6298 non-3-6-9 black dial

All Explorers are cool but the early ones the best

6150, 6350, 6610 and 1016. But what makes your 6610 is the white seconds hand with the lollipop dot. They only made those on ref. 6610 and for a short time only. My favorite Explorer of all is the unique 6610 with the white "test dial" used by the dial ma

Excellent write up of an Iconic watch

Joe- excellent write up of a great piece. I enjoy all your reports very much. A few things to note. 1) you mention the hands & how the minute hand extends to the edge. A good point. You never mentioned the hour hand? The hour hand has a long neck that

The true star is the 6610

I think the GMT is nice that you show and it is has its charms. But the 6610 is extremely fine. I have rarely seen such a nice example with golden gilt hands. I love the GMT - it will be always my first love along with the Submariner. But the Explorer mod

Your right

It is not a bad thing. It really doesn't bother me the slightest. I think your right that it will not change for the foreseeable future. Not with Explorers in general. But with early references such as the 6150 and 6350 (also perhaps the 6610) - it is onl

6610 production years

daer all I can read everywhere (at least on the web) that the 6110 replaced the 6150 in 1959 but what about production years of the the 6110 ? when did it start ? 1956, earlier ? as we can find serial numbers and caseback dated 1956 (i found one as well a
