Horological Meandering: Yes

Yes, “Evil Clapton” Ref 881101-02 (black dial with white subdials). The white version (Eric Clapton) is 881101-01.

Horological Meandering: Yes, get out if you can

While it’s possible the “bones” of the watch are correct, it’s clear that the dial and handset have been replaced and redone in a way that would immediately scare off any real UG collector who values originality. If you can get out of the deal, I clearly would encourage you to do so. If not, I hope

Horological Meandering: Run away...if not too late

Ref 881101/02, Evil Clapton is a great Universal Geneve Tri-Compax. But that’s not a legit example. Wrong hands. Wrong hour markers. Redone lume (badly). Wrong crown. Just a shame. And RGM probably Only produces a couple dozen pieces each year. I paid for sticker for mine which is almost $10,000 (without the hacking second, despite my own OC

Patek Philippe: 3 and 9

Yes, “sideways” is unusual but definitely seems to help with the lovely lines and symmetry of the layout. Most 1578s I’ve seen have this, though interestingly some do seem to have the “upright” numbers. Not sure why the different approaches on the same reference, but that’s what makes it interesting
