You often see this dial refered to as white, but in fact it is actually silver
It is very hard to photograph but if you look at it in direct sunlight it is very evident.

Found the copy and you are absolutely correct!
Although the announcement was made in such a fine minuscule print that I did completely miss it. Did just see it now. Dang, it would have paid off to have paid more attention some twenty years ago, reading the issues when new.
