Dear All,

After putting this beauty on wrist for nearly a week, would like to share with you my feeling towards it.

1. The blue dial is indeed amazing, showing different shades of blue according to the ambient lighting. The dial layout is also balanced and symmetrical, with bilateral sub-dials right at the 3hr and 9hr levels. The number of the date subdial at 6hr position also has no distortion of the numbers.

2. Being the thinnest Patek perpetual calendar (8.42mm, even thinner than 5712), it sits on the wrist with a low profile, almost sticking to skin.

3. The new clasp is more sophisticated than the simpler old clasp with cover. I also like the bigger calatrava cross on it.

4. There is a new deflector system moving the correctors on both sides of the case towards the lug holes (except the one at 9hr position), without interrupting the nautilus case design. This is a unique feature, not seen in other nautilus with correctors (e.g. 5712, 5726). It is a subtle, yet remarkable design, as the correctors are not placed in the most direct/ shortest distance from the caliber inside, which isn't easy to achieve.

Wish all fellow members a relaxing and happy weekend!

Best, Henry

About the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Ref. 5712

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak reference 5712 represents a 36mm iteration within the Royal Oak series, produced during the 1980-1990 period. This reference features a blue dial configuration paired with stainless steel construction throughout both case and bracelet.

The 36mm stainless steel case houses the automatic caliber 2121 movement, delivering a 40-hour power reserve. The watch incorporates a fixed octagonal bezel and sapphire crystal, with 50-meter water resistance. The integrated steel bracelet completes the stainless steel construction.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking a vintage-production Royal Oak in the smaller 36mm case size. The blue dial variant offers an alternative to more common dial colors within the reference range. The decade-long production window from 1980-1990 places this reference within the early Royal Oak manufacturing period.

Thanks, Robin. How are you doing? Still remember we met at a Vacheron event during W&W in Hong Kong few years ago.

Yes, I enjoy the 5740G a lot. It weighs just right and has a svelte appearance. Initially I am thinking of keeping it in brand new condition in the case for a longer period of time, but eventually could not resist the temptation of putting it on wrist. Best, Henry
