Miranda's report from Baselworld 2016 captures the excitement surrounding Tudor's remarkable resurgence, moving beyond its 'poor man's Rolex' perception. The article focuses on key releases like the Black Bay Bronze and the updated Black Bay line, providing a collector's first impression of these significant models.
The Sea-Dweller reference 116600 marked the return of the 40mm case size for the model, a dimension that had been absent from the Sea-Dweller lineup for some time. This reference reintroduced several classic Sea-Dweller design elements, distinguishing it from its larger contemporary, the Sea-Dweller 4000. It was produced for a relatively short period, making it a notable transitional model within the brand's professional tool watch offerings.
This reference features a stainless steel case measuring 40mm in diameter and 15.3mm in thickness. It is equipped with a unidirectional rotating bezel made of black ceramic with a 60-minute graduation. The watch is powered by the automatic caliber 3135, offering a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. A sapphire crystal protects the black dial, which includes a date complication without the cyclops lens, a characteristic feature of the Sea-Dweller line.
Appealing to collectors who appreciate traditional proportions and the technical capabilities of a professional dive watch, the 116600 is recognized for its blend of heritage design and modern materials. Its limited production run contributes to its appeal among enthusiasts seeking a Sea-Dweller with a more classic case size and specific aesthetic details, such as the matte-like black dial and the absence of the cyclops over the date.
... Tudor keeps surprising so beautifuly to his followers... all are interesting new offerings, I like very much the bronze BB, but I am really impressed by the new look of the new "Tudor Submariner" version, which except for its thick case, looks very much likely to the first references of that historical watch. Iยดm sure this one will come to my collection in a near future as soon as they are available in my Country! Thank you so much for sharing your experience and information and receive my b
Which is a pretty good compliment, as it is a watch which doesn't leave anyone insensible to it. There are a few things which disturb me, such as the dimension of the case, and the 3 / 6 / 9 dial. I guess I have to have a look in the real, before any final judgement. I will also post a review on the new Black Bay collection, by the way. Happy to see a 36 mm version! Best, Imran, and thanks for this post. Nicolas
Also the extra 2mm actually works better with the new thicker case Best Imran
..wonder what if it was more luxurious, more finessed - AR coats, high polish counters, etc somewhere btw Tudor n Rolex perhaps.
Is it an optical illusion, or is the Dark actually a mm or so smaller than the Bronze? And while the collection is strong overall, my favorite is probably the 36mm - a bold choice for a brand as it is a bit of a trend reversal and IMHO a wonderful, robust, under the radar watch with lots of charm...
with the new version of the Black Bay Blue with inhouse movement and new rivet bracelet coming in a distant second. However, I'm still reeling from the Jenna Haze reference! LOL!
