Easy choice!
I noticed that you mentioned that the annual calendar is a more comfortable wearing watch. This is obviously important to you as it is to me. The annual calendar is not only thinner but also a lot lighter than the datograph. This you will appreciate after wearing either watch for a prolonged period of time.. Yes, agreed that most purists are partial to the datograph with its lovely movement but the wearability aof a watch and its suitability to one's wrist is to me the most important factor when buying a watch. I too agree that a manual movement is preferred to an automatic movement.

If finally capable, I would buy both. Their styles are quite different and I am very sure you will enjoy both very much.
If really have to pick one, I will choose the datograph. It is just the beauty of the beauty. Having said, always get one you like most.

I too was swayed in the early days on what's iconic. So I ended up buying the Lange 1 and Dato, all iconic pieces. But I felt I missed out on pieces that I really liked too.
I had the original dato.
i did nit like the top heaviness of it and traded for a grand Lange 1 moonphase. I love the watch. Go with what your hear likes.
