A. Lange & Söhne

Hello Hill!

Many thanks for your response. I'll get to watches in a moment, but yes, those strings appear to be "Dominants." Inexpensive, rather indestructible, yet they sound quite good on some instruments—even older ones. And the violin is at least handmade, and by a maker whose work pops up immediately on Google. It probably could sound decent if set up by a reputable shop. And as it's French, it might immediately benefit from a change to some more modern strings, which imitate the sound of the old silver- or aluminum-wound gut much better than the Dominants. They'd probably round out the sound; take the edge off.
Now, as to the SBGC013… I'd noticed your fabulous post, but had skipped over it as that watch is just too much for my wrist. I'd marked it to come back to, however, due to the DH Lawrence poem! Right! So as not to clog the Forum with things unrelated (but is anything, really?) to timepieces, I'm sending you a PM. The '013 is, indeed beautiful, especially in that lively blue. A marvelous watch, I'm sure. Wear it in good health! Fred
