Hi Stephen,
no confirmation or denial from this end, just that one (or more) special or new Lange models will be introduced in 2009 after SIHH.
On the guesses, some random points:
First of all something not related to Lange, but maybe telling nonetheless.
NOMOS, one of the other Glashütte brands, introduced an edition commemorating 20 years of Germany´s re-uniting since November 1989. The "fall of the iron curtain", which probably most remarkable stages took place in Berlin (east and west then). But these events did affect the eastern german regions and for these a special edition is created:
20 models remind of a east-german city, all are different in various grey tones and only 20 of each will be available at 20 Nomos dealers in Germany.
(Bautzen, Dessau, Eisenhüttenstadt, Glashütte, Grimmen, Herrnhut, Hildburghausen, Lichtenstein, Ludwigslust, Lützen, Pasewalk, Schildau, Schmalkalden, Stendal, Schwarzenberg, Templin, Treuenbrietzen, Weimar, Weißwasser und Wurzen)
This may give an idea, big events to come and many german leading brands, not limited to watches, will join in.
Second, the main event and most important day for the year of 2009 Germany will be (aside federal elections in late September) the 23rd of May in 2009.
This date marks 60 years of Germany, being a democratic parliamentary federal democracy since 1949:
Founding of the Federal Republic of Germany
In 1948, the minister presidents of the federal states convened as an assembly to draw up a constitution for the state that was emerging from the Trizone. From the very beginning this constitution was intended to be provisional until reunification of the country, and was thus known as the Basic Law (or in german, the Grundgesetz). It included many of the intentions of the western occupying powers but above all reflected experiences with the fallen Weimar Republic.
The constitutional convention at Herrenchiemsee and the Parliamentary Council, which consisted of members of the state parliaments, decided in favor of a democratic and social federal state. It was these men and women of the republic’s first hour who incorporated the spirit of the democratic traditions of 1848-49 and 1919 as well as the “revolt of the conscience” of July 20, 1944. They personified the “other Germany” and won the respect of the occupying powers. The formal proclamation of the Basic Law on May 23, 1949 marked the beginning of a new era. Following the elections to the first Bundestag on August 14, 1949 parliamentary life rounded out the constitution. The first federal government, led by Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, prepared for Germany’s return to an “honorable position among the free and peaceloving nations of the world”, a project that US Secretary of State Byrnes had announced three years earlier.
Adenauer, along with the first Federal President Theodor Heuss (FDP), Ludwig Erhard (CDU), the father of the “economic miracle”, and the great opposition leaders of the SPD such as Kurt Schuhmacher and Erich Ollenhauer, gave the new party system in West Germany an unmistakable profile and created new confidence in the German state. Step by step they extended German say and its political influence on the occupying administration and committees.

All that can be said by now, around 23rd May 2009 a lot of official and inofficial celebrations will take place.
There will be prominent events in public, such as a major celebration of our political and economical leaders in view of the "Brandenburg Gate", but also several major events with many most prominent political guests of the world.
Well, one or more events may be celebrated by a special Lange watch. And i´d guess it wouldn´t be Lange if not doing such with a very special piece!
At least you may now have an idea what may be a possible background
Greetings from Germany,
Peter
