yes, there is
it is non-linear because the mainspring is non-linear. A linear display can be made, but it will make the watch un-necessarily complex for no good reason as the first 24 hours are more important, then the next 24...and leaving the indicator au-natural will allocate larger sections of the indicator to the higher wound springs, and will improve the readability.
