to me, its the most "modern" interpretation of the starwheel interface whilst retaining the core RO DNA. i normally do not like excessive wordings on dials, but your rendition is very tastefully done. best, Horo

Me too I prefer the last version. Besides, the idea came after the practice you've seen.

The dial is the best hommage to the original jumbo AND to the Starwheel. A kind of best if both worlds. Small tapisserie would be even nicer, IMO, and AP Logo at 6, for the Clin d'oeil Best, Nicolas

Smaller tapisserie (85%: it's enough?) and AP Logo at 6 (but I prefer it a 12). I nearly forgot to write that I've used the Jumbo case, that measures 39*49 mm. Here's a close-up of the Star Wheel movement, entirely designed with a vector graphics software...

I've decided to place those writings in reference to the classic RO look, where we can find both the logo, the name and the "Automatic" writings. On the other hand, AP has put "Star Wheel" only on the Millenary....  

What is an AP, and what is a Millenary. A Connoisseur doesn't need all these writings which ruin the beauty , the purity of the dial, IMO. Now that is beautiful. This is my choice! Best, and thabnks for your efforts. Nicolas.

My own personal favorite is your Proposal #5, with slightly smaller tapisserie to match the elegant and finer nature of the star wheel, and an AP logo instead of "Audemars Piguet" at 6... but that's just my own dream haha... C

Here's another proposal, for those who have appreciated the #5: smaller tapisserie (85% than the standard 15202) and AP logo at 6. I have to correct a wrong reference: the rounded luminous indexes and the angled outer ring take inspiration from the Royal ...  

...looks aren't all that matter. The issue I have with any of the redesigns are legibility. It's obvious that AP put some thought into being able to quickly read the time, even with just a fast glance at the dial. The white band on the original Star Wheel... 

I have never been a fan of the "star wheel" myself, I can appreciate the design for what it is, but simply does not appeal to me. I feel it is overly complicated for a more sport oriented watch, beautiful in it's own right. Possibly another branch for the...

...although it's now easy to see the time. But covering the Star Wheel is too extreme and takes away what makes the Star Wheel so special. I think Ap must have gone through quite a bit of different dial designs during the original development. At some poi...

I ain;t a ROO fan as the former will know but if this came out, I must say, it will be of high temptation. (still won;t pay over list though as there is no watch with that level of intrinsic value for me ) I will hope AP however addresses the issue (for m... 

We need to address the "flatness" of the wheels....perhaps the indices can be raised. Or instead of a transparent wheel disc, we can make it translucent or non see thru, and perhaps even a more "sculptural" wheel disc, maybe even 3 dimensional ala Urwerk?... 

I would love to see more of a 'Concept' Star Wheel Royal Oak as I do not feel it sits comfortably within the Royal Oak DNA.... it is quite a different movement and I feel either has to sit in a round case (Jules Audemar) or a royal oak conceptual piece. J... 

I think let's not go the urwerk route, why copy? It will diulte and I do know your live for urwerk as well.....

But I did not mean to go as far as that... they are in a league of their own... What I mean't was maybe a more conceptual dial/materials etc.

The next step of our Royal Oak Star Wheel is already in preparation. I'm looking for a design solution that might aesthetically avoid the risk of a Star Wheel forcedly falling down from the lost space; something that may look more "harmonic", "natural" an... 

The disks are slightly "smoked" and the outer ring is made the same way and positioned the same height. The AP logo at minute 0 attract one's view, trying to increase the legibility. The blue dial is slightly clearer. Ciao!...  

...I think it's that I like that at first glance it almost looks like the wheels are chrono registers, which gives it a classic look...but you quickly notice that they're not registers at all, which immediately makes it look more modern. Would it be possi... 

I noticed there has not been any response from the owner, Dr Mao! Does he know something and does not want to give anything away? I am suspicious by nature and find his lack of comment telling, but I am just a concerned AP citizen. It's a great way to kee...

I do not know about you, but I find it particularly sexy! The strong contrast between the coloured case and the pale, black&white dial attracts me a lot. Ciao!...  

I like the gold with white & charcoal grey dial a lot. And thanks for posting a photo with them at actual size. I think it makes a big difference when trying to determine readability. I really like #10 and it's gold counterpart, #11. Nice work. Emil

I think having the outer ring raised level with the disks is all that was required to solve the readability issue, so great idea! I'm not sure if you were thinking that "Audemars Piguet" would be at the same raised level as the numbers, but it would proba... 

...I had forgot the shadows. Following your suggestion: here I've put the "Audemars Piguet - Swiss Made" writing on the dial, rather than on the smoked ring; of course, now it's painted black instead of white. You find it nice?...

Wonderfully creative thinking going on here. I would just note that a key factor in the original design of the 5402 was the elongated and narrow hands and dial markers. The star wheel numerals capture this quite well, but I think that a scale of the dial ...

Very smooth adjustment. To my eye, but it's a purely subjective assessment, no 2 seems closer in proportion to the original 5402. Others may well feel differently. A quick thought - would lume in the zeros of the 10 minute markers work on the dial and in ...

Some of the earlier designs you also portrayed with luminous material. By elongating the numbers in the most recent design, the zeros had developed a something approximating a resemblance to the dial markers on the 5402 dial. In the original 5402, the cen...

It might work on a white background but the markers just stand out way too much. It may help with readability but at what cost? Emil
