Hi guys, I'd like to check with existing Survivor owners on the durability of the Survivor PVD. I've seen a common wearing off of the PVD on the case edges and wonder if that can be recoated by AP? All your invaluable feedback is very much appreciated!

Someone more knowledgeable than I will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Survivor is blackened with DLC, not PVD. The surface texture is certainly different than that of the EOD or NYLAB, and that is what gives me this impression. I wear all thre...

... simple, but for some reason the watch really sits nice against that background. I had to make some choices early 2009 and sold my Survivor (still BNIB) for less than $30k (to a friend, so I basically asked what I paid for it). Needless to say, I still... 

I must say that if all the black watches from AP offers free recoating, then that's a very attractive offer! But i'm sure it's watch specific and i've not heard of this special offer for Survivor. Is this explicitly written somewhere in the warranty? Hope...

I didn't know that AP makes the recoating on the EOD for free! I asked Panerai to make it on one of my Pre Vendome watches, some 4 or 5 years ago, they told me that they were ok to paint it in black, but that to " re do " the PVD was impossible... It was ... 

Nicolas, It's true. As I understand the rules, over the lifetime of the watch, each End of Days would receive new blackening by PVD at no cost. on one occasion. I'm out of the country, so I can't check to see where this is metnioned in the orginal paperwo...

I think people are confusing the two terms. Find below what my understanding of it is, following exchanges with both AP and Panerai on the matter. I trust we have more experts on the matter in this forum, so please add to and correct the below as you see ...

who wear theirs everyday have had no problems. Much more durable and "consistent" than the older processes AP used for the EOD and La Boutique NYC. TM

As always, your invaluable input is most appreciated. As I've been reading the forum regarding the Survivor's design and direction, seems like AP may not embark on such a bold design for its newer models. With this in mind, wouldn't that make the Survivor... 

an EX owner? I did find the watch a little uncomfortable to wear due to the width, due to the chrono pusher protectors. I also found the pusher guards a little silly and counter-functional, after the novelty wore off. But neither were really deal killers ... 

I saw your Survivor For Sale post and assumed that you'd sold the Survivor...good to hear that you kept it after all...so which watch gets more of your wrist time... the Survivor or GP Carbon?
