Well this was a nice surprise on a Monday afternoon....
Went to the Masters of LXRY (a luxury fair in Amsterdam) this afternoon to pick my wife up from a business event she had. And while being there I dropped in to say hello to my AD contact (tnx for the hospitality) who had a very large stand at the fair. Audemars Piguet, Blancpain, Breguet, Bucherer, Chopard, Christiaan van der KLaauw, HYT, Jaeger-LeCoultre, IWC, Omega, Rolex, Tudor, Ulysses Nardin, and some other watch brands were showcasing (some of) their products. Sadly I had hardly any time so I only handled 2 brands. Sat down for a drink at AP (were my contact person was working) and he told me he had some nice things to show. Well, he wasn't lying! Let's start with the most surprising watch:
The Jules Audemars Minute Repeater with jumping hours and small seconds.
The bells rang mylord, but sadly very noisy surroundings. It is a very under the radar watch. 12 mm thick so not always the best fit for under a cuff, but due too it's very classical look a dress watch nonetheless. The more it sinks in, the more I like it. Too bad I need a new house....
In real life this movement is much nicer (pic doesn't do it justice) and the way the bridges/plate are positioned (as if they are almost in the sapphire) really stands out.
The Royal Oak Concept GMT Tourbillon A.K.A. The Beach Watch
Titanium 44 mm case with a white ceramic bezel. Thickness 16.06 mm. It is light however. That makes it wearable. Sort of. Obviously it is an interesting watch due to all the materials used but what can I say...
It's big, bold and white. I would use it for the beach only. Maybe on a jet-ski. That kind of stuff.
Royal Oak Extra-Thin
Last but not least the noble version of my simple steel 15202ST. Although full gold it doesn't come across as bling bling. Not that much anyhow. Must be the size. So size does matter ;-) A very large poster of the Steel Royal Oak Perpetual Calender was hanging on a wall as well. but the real deal wasn't anywhere in sight. Sadly. Will have to wait a few months longer before being able to handle it.
All in all it was a nice Monday afternoon.
