Automotive

A confession

As a kid, we had this card deck picturing all sorts of cars, listing their performance. You named a category like hp, weight or top speed or so, drew a card, and the best spec won. That game was our window to great cars. Two of the cars stuck in the back of my memory to the extent that they still triggers me, the Aston Martin Lagonda and the Alpina A310, the latter causing the enthusiasm which later allowed me to drive the Renault 5 Turbo.

The caveat with that card game was that we were always pointing our noses towards the next, and the next and the next. We never backtracked, and I still haven`t done so for Alpine. My childhood association is the A310, and it manifested the brand for me, always hoping for the arrival of a modern iteration knocking socks off. E.g. the A610 didn`t do that for me (all at distance, mind you), and of course the present A110 didn`t.

To understand the present, you have to know the past.
