This is a constant refrain which I have heard from friends and neighbors. Last night a car buddy who's being "forced to buy a new car" (because Audi is taking back his diesel) complained that he couldn't understand how fuel economy is calculated on hybrid...  

I drive a gas guzzler 4 door sedan, one that would only get 13 miles per gallon (MPG) in the city in the current Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) test (YIKES!). Assuming gas costs $4 USD per US Gallon, and I average 13 MPG, the cost per mile is $0.30...

Hi Patrick, I just came back from driving a Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid (too big, too heavy at 5000 lbs) and a 2019 Honda Insight Hybrid which just came out Friday. It was pretty nice to drive, and amazingly inexpensive at $25k or $28k with leather and every...  

. . . at 33 mpg for my '08 Honda Civic and 34 for the '18. They both run on 87 octane, but I pump 89 for a little bit of headroom against knocking under load (i e, running the a/c during afternoon trips to OC). Art

However, carrying a load of lumber (ie pool cues) certainly qualifies, especially if you have to go over one of the passes.
