I have a Chevelle SS story ... back in the day when it was new

my friend Bill Jr. got us part-time jobs at his dad's dealership in Seattle. We used to drive cars across the state to his uncle's dealership in Central Washington.

One day his dad called us in and said, "Boys, we've got this special Chevelle SS454 that is already sold but it needs to have A/C installed. Take it over to the radiator shop on Pine and 5th and drop it off. We already faxed the purchase order."

So I drove with Bill following, and in twilight, pouring rain and bad traffic we got the car safely to the shop. I said to the greeter - "We're from the Chevy store - this car needs A/C installed, the paperwork has been faxed over." He said okay and took the car.

We drove off. A few days later Bill Sr. calls in a frenzy "Where the hell is my SS454? The radiator guys haven't seen it!"

I never sweated so profusely, so instantaneously.

We drove down there together. He pulled into the shop driveway. I looked at Bill Jr., he looked back at me - and we both said "We took it to that other shop across the street and 1/2 block up."

We ran over there while Bill Sr. drove his car - and there was our SS safely inside the garage, untouched, as they were waiting for instructions.

Whew!

(Well, ok except for the time I spun Bill Sr.'s brand-new M-B 280SL off the road ... but that's another story...)
