I was working and living off/on in the UK from 1986-95

My employer in the US had been purchased by Lord Thomson of Fleet as he was wisely diversifying out of newspapers before they all collapsed (now it's Thomson/Reuters). They already owned half of Glass's Guides (car values) in Weybridge and I was seconded to serve on a team to compare/rationalize the product lines of the two companies. Between us we had car values, lease residual estimation, fleet purchasing guides, labor times, specifications, parts interchange/salvage, OEM parts prices & numbers, collision estimating, paint, auto glass, hazmat procedures, repair estimating, maintenance and lube, repair procedures, tune-up/electrical/diagnostic (my area), wiring diagrams, component overhaul and rebuilding, service bulletins, recall info ... then we added frame dimensions and straightening, technical training, interface with diagnostic equipment, shop management systems, parts procurement .... eventually Thomson spun us off to Snap-On and NAPA auto parts, and the UK group was sold to a Swiss company.
I bore you with too much detail.
