Strangely that first Belgian G60 ...

.. must have been a very lame one smile ... but it was the exact car as tested by 'Le monitor automobile' in those days and they reached 240 kph on the counter where i was able to only manage 200 after really pushing ... then it stopped ... . I also remember the completely stupid gearing .. 50 in first .. 85 in second (uuuurggghhh ???) , then 140 in third which meant going from 2nd to 3rd gear you had a HUGE fall in revs smile smile ... On the other hand i drove a RallyeGolf (same 1763cc G60) a few years later and that one was a lot faster and extremely cool to drive ... .

My neighbor had a 1781cc Corrado 16V that was seriously fast, as if it had a 2,2 litre engine in it, he often reached 235 on the tacho .. until he had a HUGE crash while following one of my friends in his Passat VR6 ... smile ... After that he bought a 2 litre cat-equipped 16 V Corrado which was actually dead-slow .... same story Peugeot did to the 1.9 205 GTI .. bolt on a cat and from the 130 hp remained 120 hp that felt like only 100 hp smile ... ready to be beaten by my 'free' 90 hp lightweight carburetor-fed Jetta smile .....

Aaah, those were the days ;-)
