Subjectivity

Again, this falls into subjective territory.  I simply find the 2CV an ungainly car from an aesthetic point of view.  Also, mechanically, there's something less than appealing the way they sort of pootle around, which is, I suppose, only to be expected given their diminutive engines, small size and rickety build.

The 2CV is undoubtedly an icon within the motoring world though and it was and remains a popular car, but like the Volkswagen Beetle they're cars I am not fond of.

I guess I should have known that there a chance of potentially offending a 2CV fan and I perhaps should have expressed my view in a more diplomatic fashion,  I do nonetheless find them unappealing cars and I wouldn't really have a problem with someone criticising, even in the harshest terms, a car that I liked.  I'm not suggesting that you personally were offended by my observation, and it is perfectly legitimate and moreover welcome that you should seek some clarification from me as to why I don't like the car, just that there always exists that possibility of getting someone's nose out of joint a little, even unintentionally.  Passions can run high when it comes to cars, and watches, and that is absolutely no bad thing, and any detractor of a car or watch really ought to be prepared to back up their views, lest they not be making them in the first place.  Really though, I should have explained a little as to why I didn't like them without having to be asked, as it comes across as just another of these basless, throwaway comments that the internet is already all to full of.  I trust I wasn't unduly impertinent, all the same, as that wasn't what I was aiming to achieve with my comment.

The 2CV is to the SM, a little like the Beetle is to the Porsche.  Stretch it out a little, lower the suspension and maybe smooth a few angle, and you've got an SM or DS.
