As you say barely out of infancy. But given the investment the progress is rapid. Ultimately they are a lot more efficient and also cheaper to produce and run, once you get past the initial learning curve.
The inability to fast charge at home also prevented me from getting an electric car last year (and I really wanted a final V8 hurrah 😉) but I now have neighbors who get them irrespective, saying they just bring it to the petrol station with the fast charger and go for coffee and read a paper, while they charge it up there.
