I am getting my PhD degree in Math this spring. Yeah! To celebrate this moment, I plan to buy myself my first high-end watch. Now I settle down on the following two watches: Blancpain leman reveil GMT titanium and Breguet marine big date black dial. I tra...

I've tried both titanium and steel version of the Blancpain reveil. I do like the steel version, but I got better offers for the titanium versions. Now the only decision I need to make is to pick the titanium bracelet version or the strap version. Thanks ... 

To match the Breguet Reveil du Czar. I love the Breguet Marine 5817, but I think you should ditch the black dial and go white dial blued hands. It will not attract overmuch attention.

is Rolex a "no-go"? If you want it and can afford it why not get it (if that's what you want). I know the brands you mentioned are somewhat "under the radar" so to speak, except for the occasional seasoned eye so I can understand your no Rolex position so... 

I just can't picture myself, as a new faculty member, wearing a shiny Rolex in the Math department where even some senior professor wearing G-shock.

Yes. I took a look at GP traveller 2, great value in the used market, but it looks like they have not updated it for a long time. The vintage look may appeal to some people but aesthetically, I prefer the BP. Thanks!

Ignore the rudeness. As for a choice, I usually don't like telling people what to pick, but the Blancpain does have some extra complications that you might find useful.

Well done on your PhD! Just to throw an idea in the mix: I would try to make up my mind between GMT and alarm complication. Combining the two may be a stretch. The Leman is nice but personally I find the dial a complete mess. I have not heard the alarm so...

I had it on strap. My next watch is going to be a bracelet watch, so I know where you are coming from .I like titanium , its light and wears well. I would go for it.

The Blancpain dial is too busy for my taste. Breguet is cleaner. Enjoy whichever one you choose on it’s own merits. Congratulations.

I found it in NIB condition from a reputable international dealer on Chrono 24, but the FedEx tracking shows ''Clearance delay'' for two days now. Hopefully it is just due to the weekends.
