Thanks... puzzling because
it comes with an 18k gold case marked Breguet, and a nice clean dial as well. And when he wrote to Breguet they said it sold in 1899 for 500 FFR on September 20th, 1899.
I wonder if the movement didn't get switched out along the way... for whatever reason there might have been in the past 112 years.

Hi there! I promised to do a little research for a friend, but in that endeavour, I've come across a couple of people who have never seen this movement, and therefore have their doubts. Has anyone seen this movement in a Breguet?...
NO
I'd say it is the usual generic Swiss ebauche, possibly marked "Spiral Breguet" to indicate a breguet overcoil, but no connection to the man or the brand A
