Yes, in the early 1950s Cartier branded several different JLC models with their name.
Among them the Memovox.
Yours looks like the JLC reference 3151 with the Cal 489 inside.

It seems odd to me that the watch could have been your granfathers' since you bought it on eBay 10 days ago.... That being said, a very, very rare memovox. I bet the buyer (whoever he is) knew what he was doing given the price paid for what was otherwise ...
