Chopard

A very specific query

lowbee,

It's OK to have this question on Chopard forum, as you feel comfortable here.
But you may receive biased opinion due to the very specifc query -- you are asking Chopard fans what they think of Ball watches smile

Your assessment is correct. Ball had an old reputation for pocket watches specifically railroad watches in USA. After a rail accident due to inaccurate timing, it became law to have regularly regulated and certified watch models used by all railmen. This led to the rise of Ball, Elgin, Hamilton, Waltham etc.

Of course, having Webb C. Ball as General Time Inspector overlooking 125,000 miles of railroad may have helped the early fortunes of the watch company that bore his name, since his department did the testing and certification of which watches were allowed to be used.  smile

The current Ball Watch Co is a re-invented or revived brand name. Their big gimmick is the gas-filled glow tubes instead of fluorescence for dial indices and hands. What else to say? Mechanical watches, solid, assembled in Switzerland, tells the time. One model even has a thermometer built-in that tells the temperature of your skin if you are wearing it. Lots of model variations so you can spend years being a Ball collector.....

MTF
