Logical question ...

My take ... It depends on the company's policy of inventory management.  Limited Edition is a buzzword for past several years, which could trigger excitement and probably purchase from consumers.  It should be muted by now. 
So it really depends on company's stance.  But the preparation could be such, the company could prepare the unique raw materials for this model in 1000 sets plus a certain percentage for subsequent repair work.

However, the company may not manufacture all of the specified quantity for the particular model, and only do when there is demand from the market (which could be easily known with today electronic resource planning system).  Reason is simple as you may already know, goods produced and not sold is a waste and has opportunity cost  too.  Every company has a certain capacity in assembling of movements as they are still being done by humans.

Of course, for Chopard with 130 boutiques and 1,500 points of sale, mathematically, not every point of sales could even has one piece (for a model with LE of 1000 pieces) ... and with so many models of watches (growing every year),  my guess with their limited capacity, they will have to be prudent to load-balance their production against market order (from retailers & own boutiques).   Thus it is not surprising, models launched previously still available.
Another explanation is, the piece could be available in another geographical area and not being sold, the company could transfer their stock.

Hope it makes some sense now.

Perhaps the word 'limited edition' should be re-worded to 'limited production'.


The Split Second model you are looking at, in press release, it is with the standard options of croc strap in black or brown(for gold model) or rubber strap with Dunlop racing tyre motif.  It depends on your taste, as you could request other straps which Chopard has which could fit to the 21mm lug width.
Straps could alter the look & feel of the watch, so please explore with your AD.

Think this model, the box set may contain a manometer.
