Missed out
Hi All,
Unfortunately I missed out on an amazing deal on this watch while doing some additional research on it. Here is the deal I missed out on. Please let me know what you think.
I was offered $6500 USD for the watch (appeared new) with box and papers. The store was not a Chopard AD, but was an AD of other brands (i.e. Montblanc, Longines, Baume et Mercier, etc.) One of the owner's friend's is a a Chopard AD, which is how he supposedly obtained the watch. The paperwork mentioned the owner's friend's store, which did check out as an AD of Chopard. I guess this still would be considered gray market though. The jeweler who offered me the deal is also going out of business which is why he offered me the really cheap price. One concern I had was the exact retail price of the watch, since it is no longer in production. The jeweler first offered me $8000, which he said around 50% off the retail price of $16,500. I did some research which suggested that the watch costed around $12,000 when it was released in 2007-2008. When I went back, before mentioning my research, he said he would give me around 50% off the retail price of $12,500, which was $6,500. When I went back last week the watch had been sold. Should I have taken the deal or was the whole thing just too suspicious?
While doing my research I found a global AD, named Wempe, which has this watch in this store. They were actually the one that had it in the Barena strap that I mentioned in my first post. They have the price listed at $16,500. They also have the new Superfast editions, which are still produced, listed for the same price. So what should be the list price of the watch? Shouldn't it be lower?
Kong, do you know what the watch retailed for when it was originally released and what it should list for now NIB at an AD?
Thanks for listening to my story and please let me know what you would have done in my situation.
