The L.U.C XPS 1860 Officer Madrid Edition
This is a limited edition of 7 pieces with a burgundy dial made for the Chopard Boutique in Madrid, Spain.
I have previously listed all
Chopard's officer caseback watches, including all XPS 1860 Officer variants, and, like the
Hodinkee Edition or the
2021 Vendôme One, this Madrid Edition has a
double index at twelve o'clock instead of an
Arabic 12.
I personally
like this double index
better than the Arabic 12, but I
regret that they
didn't get rid of the
date window.
What do you think?
Best, Emmanuel

The
inner side of the hinged caseback is
engraved with the
coats of arms of the city.
They date back to the 12th century and depict a brown bear with a strawberry tree, one of the legends suggesting that the city's original name was Ursaria (Latin for "land of bears," due to their large presence in the surrounding forests).
The seven stars surrounding the bear symbolize the Great Bear constellation.
And the crown, the last element added to the coats of arms in 1544, is the symbol of the monarchy.
Finally, the blason underneath bears the motto De Madrid al Cielo , meaning From Madrid to the sky, which is probably to be understood as "there is no place like Madrid".
