Chopard

What does L.U.C. mean to you?

Hello, Friends,

This is the story of my discovery and journey into L.U.C. Chopard. Allow me to take you back in time and into the future, fueled not by the flux capacitor (See Back to the Future movies smile), but by passion.

We all know that L.U.C. are the initials of Louis Ulysse Chopard, the man who started making watches under the Chopard name sometime around 1860. Those same initials, since 1996, have given name to the Haute Horlogerie range of watches being produced by Chopard.

In the spring of 2009, while taking a tour of the Chopard Manufacture in Fleurier, I completely fell for this watch. It was love at first sight, from the moment I saw it, to the moment I strapped it on. So many feelings, so many thoughts, I realized to it, I was completely drawn.

The watch had (has) everything to my eyes. Elegance, sobriety, confidence, mystery, and soul. Not to mention of course, the beatifully decorated movement and subtle lines of the case.

However, back then, it was not to be....yet.

Why? For one, a couple of other watches crossed my path, but above all, my lack of maturity.

Fast forward to April/May 2011, and it is here at last!

You see, back then, I really lacked the sensitivity to really go beyond the obvious aspects of a watch. Yes, I acknowledged history, design, functionality, and rubustness, but it were the intrinsic details that I was failing to notice.

This L.U.C. made me open my eyes to those details, as it made me realize the beauty and ability of a handcraft such as watchmaking.

To realize that a watch can change personalities, as easily as it's ever changing dial color. From a greyish blue...

to a golden grey....

To a foggy silver...

All the way back, to an Oxford grey.

A model in it's own way, I have been mesmerized since that sunny Spring day.

A treat for the eyes, and a pleasure to wear.

Another apect, I completely love, is the depth of the dial. From the raised numerals, to the sunken seconds subdials.

Tight on my wrist, this one is not going elsewhere anytime soon.

The micro rotor is just a pleasure to see go around, and come around.

From elegant and formal

To as casual and easy like Sunday morning. (Thank you, Lionel Ritchie! smile)

This is my L.U.C story. One which has only begun, and whose appeal will only strenghten with time, as this is the watch I will wear on my wedding day.

Any moment, whichever instant, one witness.

So what does L.U.C. means to me?

Love Undeniably Commited, just like the vows I will soon say.

Thanks for reading,

Alex
