5270 vs 5960
Can someone please explain why the 5270g is twice the price of the 5960g ? Is the price difference justified on a technical level or is it just esthetics?

Personal opinion:
Esthetics: 5270 beautiful classic looking complicated dial vs the 5960 more modern but easier to read clean dial. 5270 Beautiful manual wind movement to look at.
Technical: 5960 is superior to the 5270 with more useful complications, power reserve, 12h chrono vs 30min and automatic movement.
Value: 5960g sells below srp 5270 not sure about the original srp

A QP is inherently harder to make, assemble, decorate by hand (and requires a lot more math). Perhaps 100-300 pieces per year (a guess). An AP of this ilk is a great machine, to be sure, but is serially produced, so easier to produce. Most likely 600-1200...

Why do we need to pretend that money is not an issue within the watch community?
Most people don't have millions of $ to spend on watches so the question of relative value is completely legitimate. At least that is my opinion.

Connoisseurship, ownership and collecting is about much more than price and who sells what. Price and seller references tend to overwhelm the other more subtle, though equally important aspects of the aficionado experience.
The reasons: More complex to make a perpetual calendar and a manual winding movement, plus the bigger refinement. Even if the 5960 is an EXCELLENT reference.
But yes, twice the price is a bit too much, still... Best, Nicolas

As much as I love the 5960 it’s unfortunately not very popular since it’s very visible in many ADs. That or there are much more of them produced.

Dial made for only one year. It is by far the most comfortable watch I own and the 12 hour chrono function comes in handy...Jim
