But 5270 is part of the high end range whilst the 5960 is part of the generic range of PP.
As far as I know, the level of finishing is different and the complexity of the perpetual calendar mechanism is also higher than 5960.
In a nutshell, to explain the value/market price difference, the 5270 is probably seen as a more collectible piece compared to the 5960.

A QP is inherently harder to make, assemble, decorate by hand (and requires a lot more math). Perhaps 100-300 pieces per year (a guess). An AP of this ilk is a great machine, to be sure, but is serially produced, so easier to produce. Most likely 600-1200...

Why do we need to pretend that money is not an issue within the watch community?
Most people don't have millions of $ to spend on watches so the question of relative value is completely legitimate. At least that is my opinion.

Connoisseurship, ownership and collecting is about much more than price and who sells what. Price and seller references tend to overwhelm the other more subtle, though equally important aspects of the aficionado experience.
The reasons: More complex to make a perpetual calendar and a manual winding movement, plus the bigger refinement. Even if the 5960 is an EXCELLENT reference.
But yes, twice the price is a bit too much, still... Best, Nicolas

As much as I love the 5960 it’s unfortunately not very popular since it’s very visible in many ADs. That or there are much more of them produced.

Dial made for only one year. It is by far the most comfortable watch I own and the 12 hour chrono function comes in handy...Jim
