A shot of Izul - the Seiko SDAA001 in its 51mm glory 🦾🇯🇵
While much of my wrist time is given to watches of 40mm and under, occasionally a larger beast makes it, too - and I have none larger than the 51mm Izul (although it somehow wears smaller than a JLC Master Compressor Memovox).
The titanium case, curved case back and lugless design all contribute to the watch wearing smaller than the dimensions suggest and the size - result of the fully articulated case, is at least largely form follows function here. It was the launch piece for Seiko’s Spring Drive chronograph movement (only in GS watches nowadays) and is among the rare versions without the GMT hand.

Being one of the few who can do both on a regular basis 😉 Seems we posted large Seiko’s in parallel, one Grand, one just large 😂

Launched just before the crisis in 2008, right? 😊 Agree with all your points and observations, the anthracite markers that turn either silver or full black depending on light conditions, are definitely a hidden highlight of the piece 👌🏻

That really is a beast of a watch and not for the faint hearted or small wristed.
The dial is really nice and clean and I especially like the hour markers but the upside down sub dials would drive me insane even if the case can be rotated. But different is good, can you imagine if we all just wore Rolex Datejusts. Marc
Just rotate the case and they are the right side up 😂
And it doesn’t require that large a wrist, either, due to some design choices made.

In many ways my most special watch, one I was searching for for six years before it found me 😉 And then getting to it or it to me during Corona was another challenge. But didn’t regret it for a second 👍🏻

I have been thinking about this post — and that for the Tokyo Lion — all day — I want to like them, especially the latter — but the size and design simply aren’t my visceral jam!!
But, I am delighted they hit a “sweet spot” of sorts for you and others!! 🙂
They do not all hit everyone’s sweet spot 😊
But that’s the nature of collecting. We all have subtly different backgrounds, tastes and preferences and that’s what makes the hobby interesting and the forum exciting 👍🏻
