Another casual observation... attempt of a different point of view
There is a recent post about the mental block of buying a Seiko. I would like to offer my story as a second point of view.
First of all, everyone should own what he or she likes most, and especially as not all like the same is what makes it worthwhile, so enjoy whatever you like.
On Seiko: I personally am very happy that I overcame the mental block, as the quality, attention to detail among other things I think is beyond most other brands + there is a mod scene, so you can become your own designer easily.
On the rest: Is it really better to own a resurrected marketing brand? For many of the brands it seems like “swiss” and “since 18xx” is all it takes to justify 5 digit sticker prices, even though the history is interrupted, the tradition is kind of made up and for the most part its the magic of financial engineered brand management. Let’s not go into individual brands, but I think aside from PP, AP and RLX, all others can be challenged.
I found peace in the belief that a genuine and authentic Japanese group trying to get better everyday is more for me than the next-best marketing exec which can dig up a history of watchmaking book at the library. For me that does not in anyway contradict my love for my PP, AP or RLXs.
A forum is aboout exchanging opinions, so maybe this can trigger some more of this exchange.
Cheers,
C.
