Another issue with a 5296G and quality

Here I am posting again about another issue with the same watch. Maybe I've discovered this new need to share details of my personal watch life. smile

While I was checking out the caseback with a 10X loupe, I noticed two flaws on the movement that don't bother me so much, but they are far from what you would expect from Patek. The first is a piece of lint which is stuck to the crystal on the case back from the inside. This would make me crazy if it were on the dial, but I figured on the back, I'll just ask them to remove it when it is service time. The second is more striking. On the larger gear, which is visible near the 12 number, there is a pretty big scratch on the finsish of the gear. To be more exact, the scratch takes up about the length of 14 teeth on the gear. This scratch is actually fairly deep, looks like a tweezer slip or something. How do they miss this stuff?

Question to my forum group? Should I just wait for my service and request that they change out this gear, or should I make a fuss about it and ask that it be fixed now? There is no question that my watch isn't up to the standards of the new seal they are talking so much about, nor should it have received the Geneva Seal with that scratch on the gear. The face, dial, and everything else is perfect, but what about those new standards?

What is the point of hyping them, if your not going to hold them up? I also think they should define a standard as to what happends if a watch is delivered with internal flaws, things a customer clearly couldn't do. Why? Because, again, what is the purpose of a standard without something to back it up?

Now they are saying, this is our standard, however, if we don't meet it, to bad for you. Ok, we'll take your watch back to the factory for 3 or 4 months and fix it, but then you maybe just get what you were supposed to get to start with. Not right when you are asking almost 25K for three hands and a date.

Here is my point, this isn't a standard with any power behind it. It's just a warranty of sorts. But, you also get a warranty with a Chevy, and it too has standards. If they are not met, they will fix it to meet standards.

So, what do we as customers expect from this new Seal?

I think they should back it up with a statement like, if you discover, under normal lighting conditoins an internal flaw in our movements or cases, (I should just say our standard) within 30 days, you may return the watch for a brand new one, as long as it is not otherwise damaged at all. This isn't going farther than most companies will go with items costing far far less.

Just a thought.
