Baron - Mr Red

Built like a castle
I would say that the 1665 is my favourite reference to wear. Over the years, I have swayed from one reference to another. I definitely went through a Daytona phase. And an Explorer phase. And also a Sub phase. Oh, lets not forget the Tudor phase. Uhm....also flirted with the Milgauss and Yachtmaster....uhm. I am clearly a tart. Yet, throughout all of the flirting, the 1665 remained either top of my "to wear" list or thereabouts.
I started with a Mk4 double red and then progressed to Mk3, Mk2 and then Mk1. I still have my Mk1s and Mk2, but have let the Mk 3 and Mk4 go. Earlier this year, however, i did add this Rail Dial. It gets a lot of wrist time for many reasons. Firstly, it is built like a castle.....really sturdy and usable watch. Secondly, it still has that vintage look to it. The domed plexi just adds a lot of charm to what is a bruiser of a watch. Thirdly, the watch is deep and has a presence on the wrist that the Subs just do not have. The 16660 has depth on the wrist, but its not the same. The Rail Dial 1665 is actually a hard watch to find. I would say it is much rarer than the Mk4 double red, and possibly as rare if not rarer than the Mk3. To find a Rail Dial with correct provenance and papers is, to my mind, a touch rarer than a Mk3. Yet, in price terms it is much more affordable....and also a different type of charm than the double reds.
Certain watches are must-have components for my collection. The seadweller theme would not be complete without this Rail Dial.
