Cabestan at the GTE 2012
The Cabestan watch is a long on-going saga that has been through many hands. With the present new generation, the Cabestan Trapezium, it has received a new styling in a less baroque case and a movement redesign and industrialisation by Eric Coudray of JLC Gyrotourbillon fame. The watch has two crowns with flip-up paddles, one for winding (left) and one for setting (right).
The case now sports saphire glasses front and back, the vertical tourbillon still as visually fascinating as when I first saw the first prototype in Vianney Halters shop many years ago; an horological steam engine. But for my taste the Trapezium case is very sober and dry, the Cabestan has lost some of it's steam-punk allure.
