California PuristS break bread with Stephen Forsey and Robert Greubel

The dinner was held in the elegant Board Room at the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills.

The evening started with cocktails and some darned good appetizers; with my hands full with camera equipment, I missed the baby potatoes and caviar; the mini lamb chops!

Fantastic watches were passed around to scrutinize and oogle - the prototype right off Stephen Forsey's wrist.

The ever dapper Yuri and his lovely wife, who is expecting in October. Congratulations!

The last guest arrived around 7:30p, and we were seated in The Board Room. The special surprise guest of honor was to make a Hollywood grand entrance...

Robert Greubel flew in just for this event, literally came from the airport straight to the hotel and took a shower in the exercise room before coming to join us...and left the next morning back to La Chaux de Fonds. Alas, he was not able to attend the New York dinner due to a critical business meeting in Switzerland that could not be changed.

The evening was a very intimate, casual one by design. We deliberately kept the total guest count low to allow for maximum personal time. Above, Stephen, LA Purist Art, and Heidi, with Greubel Forsey USA, share a light hearted moment.

Throughout the evening, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves tremendously. Smiles were ever present; pearly whites lit up the room.

Watches, of course, were the topic on everyone's mind for the evening...

Stephen was pressed into saying a few words to the assembled aficionados, and managed to keep it casual and low key.

"A gathering of friends sharing a common love for watches" was the theme for the evening.

But, hey, who said only men can wear men's watches?

Or only women can wear women's watches?

There were stunning watches on every wrist in the room...

including this Millenary Maserati from AP, on Mitch's wrist, during a pensive moment as Mitch contemplated which bank to rob to finance the quadrupal tourbillon differential...

The always composed and graceful Nicole, sitting next to Robert...but no one ever said grace and composure can't co-exist with passion...

The mark of impeccable service is the ability to be invisible while doing one's job; one of the excellent service personal from Belvedere pouring as LA Purist SteveH listens raptly to comments by Stephen Forsey.

Of course, beauty that evening was not only on the wrist or in the hand...

The evening ended with a very special memento for each guest - a hand signed, personally dedicated pencil sketch of the Greubel-Forsey tourbillon. I know several of us who plan to have this framed and proudly hung on our wall!
