Horological Meandering

Demagnetising made easy

One of the best horological pieces of kit I ever invested in.

Something happened since I was missing the last ten years.  When I came back to watches in 2015, I began to realise that pretty much 50% of my watches were getting magnetized in some shape or form that had never previously suffered - even allegedly antimagnetic rated pieces...... It seemed that since the era of the mid naughties the amount of exposure we get to magnetic fields just went off the charts.  Smart phones, phablets, induction hobs, security screenings, the list is endless.  If you carry a weenie Suunto compass around, you can soon see.  So despite having a cheap demagnetizer already, the type you withdraw from....  it's just too much like hard work to accurately demagnetise and in the realms of a science project for my wife of letters.

We needed a one button 'boom - done' solution.  We found it in the box above.  About the footprint of a slice of bread,  it sits in an easy to use location and it's a simple process to plonk the piece on and push the button once which sends the antimag through a single decaying rotative field cycle.

Considering how much we all have invested in pieces etc, this has been a real boon at very little cost.
