DialLacquer
I hope someone can come forward with information on this subject,
I read a Purists post a few days ago which I can't relocate about people existing today who professionally remove old discolored dial lacquer, without disturbing in any way the actual dial underneath in any way, to then re-coat the original dial surface with modern, superior quality lacquer. Is this done, and who are the best people out there doing it?
Questions have since played in my mind a few days, for I always believe vintage dials are best left untouched, and so didn't take much notice of the post when I read it. Would like to know how acceptable/ unacceptable something like this sounds to 'Purists', and do the more particular collectors among us feel this kind of re-lacquering ruins the originality of a patinated vintage dial, and affects watch value long term?
Can anyone who has had this done please share a set of before, after photos?
Last question, are there tell tale signs on a dial that make conditions ripe to consider going in for such a restoration?
Many thanks,
Rishad
