Everest and the Explorer: an anniversary
Just yesterday, one day after the 60th anniversary of Hillary's climb to the Everest summit, I got my first Explorer 6298, also from 1953!
It will nicely compliment my 1016, 10 years younger than the 6298:
Years ago, I hardly would have paid attention to a patinated old Oyster like this 6298. But after learning more about the origins of Rolex professional watches, I really wanted to add an early Explorer to my collection!
(Now I only need a full-length seconds hand to make me perfectly happy. So, if anybody has one...)

The beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Nothing can replace the joy of knowing the history of a watch and all it represents. If only the watches could talk. In any case we as collectors will do the talking and as collectors you 1000's who are listening....
