Geneva Auto Show 2014 Report - part 1

There was much to see at the Geneva Auto Salon 2014.  Many new models, let's start with the probably most awaited, the Lamborghini Huracán.








The Lamborghini Huracán replaces the Gallardo in the Lamborghini model lineup.  Seen by itself it is a very successful design, I like it.  Unfortunately seen next to an Aventador it looks like the little brother that was washed at too high a temperature.  It is so similar in its lines that Huracán doesn't have a personality of its own.  The Gallardo appeared much smaller but more high strung.  The Gallardo was like a cocked bow from its lines, full of energy, ready to pop.  The Aventador is muscular, but without the "cocked bow" energy ready to pop.  And so is the Huracán too.  I am sure it will be a big success, but it is a little too much just the little brother, without bringing any design features to differentiate itself, for my taste.   The water was too hot, but not hot enough to make a high strung smaller car out of it.

Bugatti, they must be selling well, small stand without much to-do.  This chocolate carbon fiber coat is gorgeous.

The Aventador is popular with the tuning/customising companies.



If you've see one Bently you have seen them all, but it does work surprisingly well as a convertable.







Maserati



It took me a while to realise what this Alfieri concept car reminded me of.  Yes, it is a Panamera brushed à la Maserati, especially the back portions have a strong resemblance.  That said it is a very good looking car (if they would leave off the ridiculous blue wiring on the wheels).



















Ferrari















Baroque faces that don't talk to me at all.







But finally, with this new California they are finally finding their way back to a reasonable look.  No more rolling fat around the cars.  The grill has no sagging lips.  If Ferrari can keep going in this direction for a couple of more new model generations then they may really see the day when I say, what a good looking car!

I love this 4C.  Everything is just right.  And here in a roadster version it just got even better.  (Unfortunately I have heard that the driving experience is not up to the looks of the car.  Let's hope they are able to up their ante here too)



























Austin Martin



Lots of room for 12 cylinders under that hood.











Better than racing strips. I think this look with the yellow accents is great.



This Jaguar F-Type is another recent model that works for me.  The coupe which is new this year is even better looking IMHO that the roadster.















(Before I could consider buying one they would have to change the color of those brake calipers, however.  Such a jarring incongruity on an otherwise very well balanced car.  Even red would work to go with the Jaguar logo, but yellow?, no.  On the roadster above we can see that they are capable.)
