Been a fan of the Sistem 51 since launch, I still have and wear the first one I got upon launch several years ago. I’ve added a number of others since including those marketed by the watch media platform people love to hate. This is one of those and to me it’s a great package.
California dial, a pop of colour here and there (pink and green anyone?), raised numerals/indices and some texture on the dial. Oh, and to really piss some people off it’s got a date window and “Automatic” emblazoned across the dial ! 😂
Come on, that’s a lot of fun in one watch, regardless of how it was achieved and the price point.

For those whom are not familiar... The Sistem/System 51 is an automatic watch movement developed by Swatch with only 51 parts!
The Sistem 51 was a significant creation in the mechanical watch space. Its simplicity of 51 parts meant it could be produced in an efficient manner that would keep mechanical watchmaking alive for the next generation!
As a layman this always seemed pretty impressive to me.
Yet, all I hear are complaints about lifespan and it not being repairable. (Although I’m pretty sure I read a post somewhere about some ingenious watch hooligan that did mange to take apart, repair and reassemble one).
Great for a kid to get used to a mechanical automatic watch!
Swatch watches have always been great starter watches for kids... So the short lifespan would be okay for a kid who's bound to damage it or lose it someday!
Horrible Swissmatic
I’ve got a Swissmatic which did not live long. A more careful person like me is rare, so the use of less parts is no garante for a good experience. I do not know if i can compare a Swissmatic to System 51, but i know both have the same boss. Due the cheap...
