I am looking to buy a pre-owned 5140 Classique Automatic Enamel Dial in YG. A few questions for any experts out there:
1. From some quick research, it appears this model may have been introduced around 2002. Has the design evolved at all since its introduction?
2. I believe the movement has been changed (or at least renamed) over the years. Any thoughts on that?
3. I have seen some talk of the movement being less reliable than ideal. Anyone have any knowledge regarding this issue?
4. Finally, is there anywhere to find pricing history? There are sellers out there offering 8-9 year old watches and using the current msrp as a reference point, i.e., taking the position that $12k is reasonable for a mint piece because the watch sells new today for $18.8k. That seems like a falacy to me because the watch they are selling probably sold new for $15k or less in 2005. Still, I am not an expert in this area, and I'm sure the current price is due in part to the high price of gold, which would apply equally to an older watch. Any thoughts on this issue and the depreciatoin of fine watches in general would also be very interesting.
Thanks,
Eric
