So many stunning watches...I mean, what's a guy to do? Live in a cardboard box? I guess that might be the future... But I'll own ALL of them..LOL
Guys, I have a problem and I would appreciate your help/opinions. Last year I bought my first German watch, a GO PanoGraph. Kept me happy for 6 months, but upon further consideration, I recently decided to sell it and get a more "purist" German design, Lange 1 or PanoReserve, and leave a RetroGraph for some time in the future. So that's my problem, basically..Lange 1 or PanoReserve? I've been pondering these 2 for months and haven't reached a conclusion.
I went to see both watches in person, and that made it worse. I like the movement of the GO, with the engraved butterfly bridge and the separate engraved cock for the 4th wheel. But, I consider the dial of the Lange 1 to be an absolute classic, a killer, however you want to call it. And the case looks better too. So what do you guys think?
warm German silver vs. cold rhodium plating
more chatons vs. more engraving
relatively simple, classic dial vs. a more modern, complicated dial
This didn't get me anywhere so I wanted to make an option based on what's underneath the nice dials and top plates. The problem is I didn't find any in-depth reviews of either watches, something along the lines of the 1815 review featured here and another one I know from Walt Odets. Which one has the more complicated date mechanism? Which one has the better power reserve mechanism? The double-barrels of the Lange are an advantage but I like the quick-change date from GO. I read on the Lange website that the movement has 365 parts, a lot for what appears to be a rather simple watch. I thing the GO has about 100 fewer, but I am not sure. If somebody can share any technical knowledge about the inner workings of these 2 I would be most grateful. I don't know if I want to mention the touchy "movement finish" issue, but if any hard evidence is presented that's ok.
I hope somebody will help me out here..I'm going nuts!! I can't stay watchless for too long(the AD lists are backed up for months if they don't have the model you want in stock). And I apologise for mentioning the name GO so many times...LOL. I appreciate any help/opinions in advance.
